American Harp Society names Alexandra Katelyn Mullins Young Concert Artist

American Harp Society is proud to announce that Alexandra Katelyn Mullins is named the new Young Concert Artist for the next two years.  Ms. Mullins, 19, a Sophomore at Indiana University, student of Distinguished Professor Susann McDonald, has performed throughout the US and Europe in many venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. She has received awards, including First Place in the Advanced and Young Professional Divisions of the American Harp Society, First Place in the Lyon and Healy Awards, First Place in the 18th Petar Konjovic Serbian International Harp Competition, First Place in the Jacobs School of Music Concerto Competition, as well as numerous regional awards. Performances have included appearances with the Charlotte Symphony and the IU Orchestra, and she will make her European orchestral debut in Belgrade in 2014. Participation in AHS competitions since 2005 has contributed greatly to her success as a musician, and she is thrilled to serve and perform in the capacity of Concert Artist for the next two years. Former and current teachers and coaches include Dr. Carrol McLaughlin, Dan Yu, Sivan Magen, Dr. Maria Luisa Rayan-Forrero, Bette Roth, Christine VanArsdale, and Jaqueline Bartlett.

San Francisco Ballet names Adriana Horne Principal Harpist

Adriana Horne won the audition for the position of Principal Harpist, San Francisco Ballet, and will relocate to the Bay Area this fall.

Adriana is currently a freelance harpist based in Saint George, Utah. An experienced orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, she also provides harp music for weddings and other special events in Las Vegas, Saint George, and throughout the greater Southwestern region of the United States.

Currently a Doctoral Candidate at Indiana University with a Major in Harp Performance and a minor in Music Education, she also holds Music degrees from The University of Southern California and Texas Tech University.

A consistent prizewinner in national competitions, Adriana has been honored with top prizes in the American String Teachers National Competition and first prize in the Young Professional Division and Renie Competition of the American Harp Society National Competition. She was also selected as the American Harp Society’s Concert Artist from 2005-2007. Through this program, she presented solo harp recitals and concerts throughout the United States and was the Opening Recitalist for the 2007 American Harp Society National Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

As an orchestral musician she has played in many diverse ensembles throughout the United States, including the Star Wars in Concert touring orchestra and the Florida Grand Opera orchestra. She was Principal Harp for the New World Symphony for the 2008-2011 seasons.

Adriana has over 10 years of teaching experience and is on the faculty of both Dixie State College and Southern Utah University. She also maintains a private harp studio and enjoys teaching harpists of all different ages and abilities.
