Thank you to all the harpists who attended the Sasha Boldachev master class and concert.  What an inspiring performance! Sasha dazzled us all with incomparable technique.  His exquisite program spanned from free improvisation to classics from the harp repertory to astounding solo transcriptions of major ballets to toe-tapping pop songs.  Check out photos below:

Harpy Hour!
 Harpy Hour is a chance to connect with other harpists in your neighborhood.  Share wonderful conversations over drinks and snacks. We meet the third Tuesday of every month. Mark your calendars!  Locations rotate across the Bay Area.  Hope to see you there!

Concert Feb 24, 8pm Oakland. Diana Rowan (harp), Daniel Berkman (kora), Peter Maund (percussion), Gary Haggerty (oud/violin/tarhu), Sarah Michael (kanun/tarhu.) Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Medieval, and West African musics, original compositions by the band members, and instrumentation that may never have been heard before, including Tarhu duets! The Project combines the hypnotic west African kora in the hands of a composer with a 21st century esthetic, a great harpist with interests in the past, present, the Balkans and the Middle East, two players of the tarhu, a modern re-engineering of the yayli tambur, one a multi-instrumentalist known for his jaw-dropping improvisation, and one a kanun player and composer with a long history in early music, and a hand drummer well versed in both early and world music traditions. February 24th – Meredith Clark
Meredith Clark plays French chamber music next weekend, February 24 and 25, in San Luis Obispo for Festival Mozaic’s winter series Wintermezzo. The program will include the Suite en Duo by Jean Cras for flute and harp as well as Roussel’s Serenade for flute, harp and string trio. March 3rd – Michael Steadman
Michael Steadman will be performing March 3 with the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony at Herbst Theater. The concert will feature Mahler 1 and vocal selections with soprano Patricia Racette. http://bars-sf.org

March 3rd – Meredith Clark
Saturday, March 3rd at 8pm, Meredith will be performing Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro as part of a fundraiser for Oakland School for the Arts. The concert will take place in the OSA Sweets Ballroom at 1933 Broadway Ave, Oakland, CA 94612.

March 9th – Destiny Muhammad
Karen Seneferu present Classic Strings and Street Ballet with Joan Tarika Lewis, Destiny Muhammad, and Fayzo Medea Sirkas! This is one of the most powerful, experimental collaborations yet. March 12th – Meredith Clark

Registration is open for Canadian International Summer Harp Institute (CISHI). BACAHS member, Susie Spiwak, has been attending since 2012, and relishes the instruction and the community it fosters. Happening July 20-27, 2018, CISHI provides a unique place for harpists of all ages and levels to immerse themselves in a week of intensive training with world-renowned teachers, Judy Loman, Julia Kay Jamieson and Gianetta Baril, and to enjoy the camaraderie of similarly motivated students. Jennifer Ellis – SFCM Preparatory Program Registration
Dr. Jennifer Ellis has joined Professor Doug Rioth teaching for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory program.  Registration is now open for  2018-2019.  This is a wonderful, comprehensive music program including harp lessons, musicianship classes, and chamber music for students up through grade 12.  Please click here and here to learn more or email Jennifer Ellis at jellis@sfcm.edu.
