Welcome to the Bay Area Chapter of the American Harp Society’snewsletter for August 2018!  We have lots of exciting things going on this month.   Our annual membership meeting is August 19th in Oakland.  We have the BACAHS-sponsored Alice Coltrane tribute concert by Destiny Muhammad on August 26th.  Finally, we are announcing the information for the 2019 Yvonne LaMothe Schwager Competition.  Read on to learn more!

2019 Yvonne LaMothe Schwager Competition

We are thrilled to announce the dates and repertoire for the 2019 Yvonne LaMothe Schwager Competition!

Application Deadline: April 15th, 2019

Competition Date: May 19th, 2019
Venue: Peninsula Jewish Community Center
Address: 800 Foster City Blvd, Foster City, CA 94404

Winners Recital Date: June 2nd, 2019, location TBA

Application Information: The application form will be made available on the BACAHS website on January 1st, 2019.

August 19th – Kristal Barlaan
Free Community Harp Concert – August 19th at 4 p.m. at 11000 Shasta Ave. in San Jose, CA 95126.  Come enjoy an afternoon of harp music. This concert will be a mix of students and professionals (including local harpists Ricky Rasue, Jessica Schaeffer, Sara Goss, and Kristal Barlaan) collaborating in unique ways to entertain and educate. A mix fo classical and contemporary music. Free! Wine and cheese included. Bring a friend.

December 1 – Stephanie Janowski ,Heather Paschoal, and Anna Maria Mendieta
20 Harps for the Holidays Harpeggio Music will present their holiday concert on Saturday, December 1, 2018, 4pm at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Avenue, Los Altos. The program features our studio ensemble playing festive seasonal music. Guest artist, Anna Maria Mendieta, is known for her classical, flamenco and tango harp music and has performed internationally for audiences including European royalty, heads of state, and Pope Benedict XVI. Proceeds go to Harpeggio Music to help support studio activities, including this concert.
